AT&T launches Aio Wireless for customers who want contract-free, value-geared plans

Bigwig US wireless carrier AT&T has recently revealed in an announcement that it is launching a new wireless brand - Aio Wireless - for customers who are looking for simple, contract-free, value-geared plans.

Launching Aio (pronounced as A-O) - in a move which has apparently been prompted by smaller rival T-Mobile's "un-carrier" plans -, AT&T said that the new wireless brand is essentially aimed at customers who are interested in "a first-class wireless experience at a value price, without an annual contract."

US federal appeals court judges speak well of Google’s digital book efforts

In an apparent indication that a US federal appeals court is in favor of the value of the contentious Google Books project, three judges on the 2nd U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan spoke well of Google's plans to create the world's biggest digital library.

The judges' opinion in favor of the Google Books project came across during the course of the Wednesday hearing of an appeal which Google had filed against a 2012 verdict by a judge, granting class status to authors represented by lawyers for the Authors Guild.

Health getting affected by not walking enough

Many Brits barely walk and this despite knowing the benefits of exercise, even agreed by British Heart Foundation. This was stated in a poll.

About 25 per cent of people did not even walk for an hour per week, according to YouGov survey, which was conducted on behalf of the charity Ramblers.

Out of 2000 adults questioned, about 43 per cent stated that they did not even walk for two hours every week.

The worst was West Midlands. People here stated that they were walking less than 60 minutes a week.

Google asks appeals court to deny class status to authors

Google Inc. on Wednesday asked a U. S. appeals court to deny class status to authors who claim that the Internet firm's digital library project violates their copyrights.

Mountain View, Calif.-based Google is seeking to overturn a lower-court order that allowed the group of authors to proceed as a class on behalf of other writers.

Four more bird flu deaths in China taking toll to 31

Chinese health authorities has said that a new strain of bird flu is on a prowl in China and it is known as H7N9 and has already claimed 31 lives with 129 people being infected with the strain.

According to the data provided by the Chinese authorities, there were two deaths in the eastern province of Jiangsu; one was from eastern Zhejiang; while another was from central Anhui.

No more details of the victims were provided by the government.

Sexually-transmitted superbug is the challenge for now

A new sexually-transmitted superbug has been warned against by doctors as they can be dangerous than AIDS.

About two years ago, it was in Japan when the antibiotic-resistant strain of gonorrhea HO41 was discovered. The victim was a 31-year-old female sex worker.

Alan Christianson, a doctor of naturopathic medicine, said, "This might be a lot worse than AIDS in the short run because the bacteria is more aggressive and will affect more people quickly. Getting gonorrhea from this strain might put someone into septic shock and death in a matter of days. This is very dangerous."

T-Mobile rolls out its ‘T-Mobile TV’ app for iOS

Within weeks of its last-month official announcement that it has started carrying the popular Apple iPhone, fourth-ranking US carrier T-Mobile has now revealed that it has launched its `T-Mobile TV' app for iOS.

Though the `T-Mobile TV' app has been available on Android since 2010, the iPhone users on the T-Mobile network could not access content from TV channels till Friday.

12 yr old Riya Kotecha swims 5km for charity

As a part of the national swimathon, a five-kilometer swim was attempted by a young girl, after she made a splash in the pool in order to raise money for charity.

The girl is 12-year-old Riya Kotecha, from Morley Crescent West, Stanmore. She managed to raise £400 for Marie Curie Cancer Care after she jumped inside a local pool.

The total time taken to complete the swim was two hours and 22 minutes and out of all, the swimmer was the youngest person from Cannons Sports Pool, to be a part of the event.

Facebook scores victory in ‘domain-name squatting’ case

In a Monday ruling in a `domain-name squatting' case, the U. S. District Court for Northern California handed popular social network Facebook a victory in the lawsuit which the company had filed against the `domain-name squatters' who had registered different variations of Facebook's name.

The court's verdict came against 11 domain squatters, which included names like Intercontinental Domain Inc. and Mackrooner Ltd, for using the misspellings of domain name that has been trademarked by Facebook.

Apple to add original iPhone to its ‘vintage/obsolete products’ list on June 11

According to a 9to5Mac report, based on the information obtained from an internal document snagged by it, the 2007-launched original Apple iPhone will be added to Apple's `vintage/obsolete products' list on June 11.

As per the report, the internal Apple document hints that the first-generation Apple iPhone is nearing an obsolete status. Going by the document, the handset will - with effect from June 11 - be classified as `vintage' in the US; and `obsolete' in all other countries.

A big splash for cash

The world's biggest fundraising swim called Swimathon 2013 saw about 24,000 swimmers diving in, jumping and belly flopping in over 600 local swimming pools in the region.

Swimmers from all age groups were seen taking part in the event and the target was to raise £2m for Marie Curie Cancer Care. There were many challenges that were faced like individual swims of up to 5km or 3.1 miles and team efforts to share out the tiring lengths.

It was in Darlington and the national charity fundraiser saw huge support coming in from people of all age group.

Going by Chevrolet's Friday announcement of its pricing for the all-new C7 Corvette Stingray, the cost of the seventh-generation 2014 Corvette model will be $1,400 more than that of the sixth-generation 2013 Corvette.

According to the announcement made by Chevrolet, the cost of the base model of the all-new C7 Corvette Stingray will be $51,995, including destination; while the Stingray convertible range will start at $56,995.

Brain response to pain different in psychopaths

According to a new research, basic hardwiring lacks in psychopaths in their brain due to which people have feeling of compassion and care.

About 80 male prisoners were studied by American scientists and they were all 18 to 50 years of age.

If the percentage of US male prison population is seen then about 20 per cent to 30 per cent are affected by psychopathy and when it comes to general population, only one per cent is affected.

Brain scans were undergone by participants during videos of people being intentionally hurt and others of faces reacting to pain being shown to them.

Hospital hotels to ease ward pressure

The NHS managers are considering plans for hospital hotels to care for patients. These are those patients who don't need a 24-hour medical care.

The proposal states that hotel-style facilities will be given to patients such as the elderly waiting to be discharged, new mothers and stroke patients.

The new commissioning body, NHS England, will be reviewing the idea.

A Scandinavian model is the basis of the scheme and this would ease demand on hospital beds.

Scandinavia houses patient hotels, especially in Norway and Sweden.
