EU Rebukes Google for Defaming Rival Sites

Google has been rated in the black list of the European Union once again, with the latter’s antitrust agency claiming that the search giant has been denouncing as well as defaming its rival sites in all the search pages.

Whenever a company attains a dominant position in the European market, just as Google did, it gains a possession of 70% of the market share, across Europe. Here, the regulators keep an eye on the possibilities of breach undertaken by the dominant companies.

Joaquin Almunia, EU's Antitrust Chief, said that the probe on Google is in the initial phase. The commission commenced with the investigations late February, after receiving objections from British price comparison site Foundem, Microsoft service Ciao from Bing and French legal search engine, ejustice. fr.

“Among the things the antitrust agency must consider are barriers to entry to competitors, whether a company can use its dominant position to affect other companies' statuses”, said Almunia.

Google has clarified that its search results are monitored by algorithms that downgrade sites with less valuable content for users.

The reduced rankings are considered important, as the increased rating of Google search drives, elevates traffic on websites.
