Recent Allegations Add to French Minister’s Woes

Eric Woerth

Yet another controversy has gripped Eric Woerth, the Labor Minister of France, on Wednesday.

The media has reported that he had marketed a racecourse, which belonged to the state, at a price less than the market value, to someone he knew well.

The report about the scandal was published in Marianne magazine and Le Canard Enchaine, which is another weekly magazine.

The Minister has also been involved in other scandals like receiving unlawful financial support for a political campaign and other accusations of fraud.

The media has revealed that the Minister had sold off Compiegne racetrack, along with 57 hectares of forest property for a sum of 2.5 million Euros.

The media has revealed that the actual worth of the properties was 20 million Euros.

However, the Finance Ministry has denied such allegations. The opposition leaders may now force the Government to execute an inquiry into the matter.

The President, Mr. Sarkozy has shielded the Minister by saying that he is a sincere and proficient man.

Also, in the wake of the controversies surrounding Mr. Woerth, the opposition party is asking him to step down from the post of the Treasurer for the UMP party, which is the ruling party in France.
