Labor Minister Eric Woerth Hit by New Allegations

On Wednesday, new claims have been made against Labor Minister Eric Woerth, who is already assaulted by a number of corruption cases. Earlier, he was accused of receiving illegal funds to the tune of 150,000 Euros from France's richest woman, Liliane Bettencourt in the name of political campaign for President Nicolas Sarkozy's during elections in 2007.

At that time, he was a budget Minister and the allegations made him to leave the post of the Finance Minister for the ruling party UMP.

He has been alleged to sell state-owned racecourse at less than market price to a person familiar to him. Antoine Gilibert, a well-known horse racing fan and a wealthy entrepreneur bought the same and he was suspected having ties with UMP. The racecourse, which is spread in 57 hectares of forest land, was sold for 2.5 million Euros, while its actual worth was 20 million Euros.

But Woerth denied any such doings. He expressed that he sold the land as a part of a policy, which he has formed to sell state-owned properties. So, he claimed the selling to be legal.

AFP was told by an official at the Finance Ministry that the deal was completely legal and was in the interest of the state.
