French Retailer Carrefour Reports Increase in Sales

Carrefour on Thursday announced the raise of 5.9% in its sales in comparison to last year. The Company on Thursday reported about its 51% buy-out in Baolongcang, a retail chain in China. Baolongcang is located in the Hebei region.

Carrefour has reported its sales of 48.9 billion Euros in the time period between January and June. The sales in the second quarter have also increased by 6.3% to 24.9 billion Euros.

"This acquisition is consistent with Carrefour's strategy of strengthening its presence in markets that are showing growth", said a statement released by the Company.

Carrefour is French retail Company, and it's the second largest retailer in the world. Carrefour is in China since 1995. It has 15,669 stores all over the world and a third of them are situated in France itself.

The retail giant in its statement also said that the retail sector has promising prospects in France; however, due to the strikes after the store closures, the sales in Belgium had declined by 8.6%.

These stores had given employment to approximately 1,092 people in France. One more factor, which reduced the sales of the Company, was the strict measures taken by the Government in Greece.

The shares of the Company closed higher by 0.1%.
