Fake Actors Are Pulling French Government’s Leg

On a fake website, called diplomatiegov. fr and designed to resemble that of the French Foreign Ministry, a group of French actors pulled a joke on the users pretending to launch a campaign to reimburse the money Haiti had to pay in 1838 to gain its independence and get rid of the French invasion on its land.

To add to the spice of the joke, a French actor impersonated a French Government Official and declared he himself will take part in the campaign. The actors called themselves the Committee for the Reimbursement of the Indemnity Money Extorted from Haiti.

Despite the innovativeness of the stunt, the French Government did not like it, and resolved to press legal charges against the fake organization. The French Government took serious steps toward limiting the action of this group starting with deactivating their websites.

However, even this, did not stop the fake politicians from sending an "official" message to the Lede, claiming responsibility for the fake announcement and the fake website, adding that the members of this group are aware that they are being prosecuted by the Government.

Laurence Fabre, the Spokeswomen of the group, stated in her message to the Lede, on behalf of her group, that they are "a group of activists from France, Canada and the United States, fess up to issuing false statements on behalf of the French foreign ministry" justifying their "spoof" by listing the war crimes committed by the French Government back in Haiti.
