Canal+ going the digital way

Canal+, the French pay channel is going to become fully digital from Wednesday. This is just a year before the official switchover deadline was given to the channel.

Talking on the same, CEO Bertrand Meheut of Canal+ said that it is key for the firm since they are first national free-to-air channel which has digitized itself fully. He further added that the main idea behind this decision was to stop analog broadcasting.

Ile-de-France that is present in the Paris region was amongst the last ones in analog subs to have gone the digital way and was able to achieve a full switchover. Besides this, Canal+ has also helped in conversion sending free decoders which are going to be sent to last analog subscribers.

The result of this move was that the churn rate came down by 8 per cent. Data has also Canal+ subscribers, which stands at 74 per cent, have switched over to DTT, 15 per cent has gone for satellite users while 4 per cent have taken up cable connection.

Even today, DTH distribution is the highest and out of 5.3 million users there are 3.2 million sub concerned.
