Canada new Citizenship Test has got support from an unexpected quarter. It has been defended by the Immigration Minister, Jason Kennedy. He said that now the exam has become even more difficult as the passing grade has been made 75 per cent as against 60 per cent in the past.

He said the levels have been made tougher since the government wants that whoever comes into the country is proficient in English and/or French. The step has been taken since it was found that more than 50 per cent of the immigrants that came into the country did not know the official language.

In an interview given to the National Post, Kennedy has said that it was really frustrating to meet people who were living in Canada were not aware of the local language. But now it will not be the case anymore.

Strangely, since the time that this test has been brought forward, as many as 30 per cent of the applicants have failed to pass the test. The outcome are in line with a test that was carried on earlier in Discover Canada.
