French minister goes vocal about arrest of Iranian film-maker

Frederic Mitterrand, French Cultural Minister has gone totally vocal and has openly slammed the government over the arrest and jailing of Iranian film-maker, Jafar Panahi.

He has been a person who has been supporting the opposition and has been in jail for around six years now.

Frederic said that his being arrested is a sign of pseudo-judgment and is stopping the great film-maker from expressing his idea, views and doing what he is best at. This means that his Freedom of Expression has been attacked and that too badly.

Jafar was arrested along with his wife, daughter and several of the other people staying at his place. While most of those who were taken into custody were released after a bail of 200,000 US dollars (S$264,120) in May, some like Jafar himself were put into jail.

People who have been close to him have said that he has been detained because of making 'anti-regime' film that became a wave in Iran. He had questioned the re-election of resident Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in June 2009.

Jafar has been known to have been very gritty and critical in his movie named 'Circle' that has won Golden Lion award in 2000.
