French Banks Depict Positive Result in the Stress Test

The results of the stress test conducted on different banks, by Bank of France are positive. The Bank of France had reportedly conducted the tests on Credit Agricole, BPCE, Societe Generale and BNP Paribas.

The banks were tested on their capability to ward off any impending financial crisis.

These banks are among the list of 91 European banks which have been examined by the EU authorities.

The outcomes depict that the banks will have an average Tier 1 ratio of 9.3% in the year 2011, even in the worst possible condition.

In the year 2009 this ratio was 9.9%.

The minimum ratio required by the banks to pass the test is 6%.Earlier the experts were doubtful of the performance of the banks in the coming year. The reason behind it is the fear of double-dip recession.

Christian Noyer, governor of Bank of France and the member of European Central Bank Governing Council disclosed that the results are satisfactory. He revealed that similar tests conducted in Europe and America are "heavier and more ambitious".

Noyer added that the banks will be able to tide over the existing situation successfully.
