Sarkozy Government Takes a Strong Stance against Criminals

French Government is taking a strict stance against the antisocial elements. Earlier this month there were riots in Grenoble followed by another one, in Saint-Aignan.

In response to the unrest President, Nicolas Sarkozy said on Friday that if any person of foreign origin attacks the police, then he would be expelled from the country. He also cautioned that such people would also be stripped off French nationality.

However, the Sarkozy Government has invited severe criticism from the opposition parties.

Spokesman of Left-wing Socialist Party, Benoit Hamon, revealed that the President should look into the matter with detail rather than making such comments.

His speech against terror was termed as "a big show" by Francois Bayrou, a leader of Centrist Democratic Movement Party.

The incidence in Grenoble in eastern France was fuelled by a killing of a suspected robber by the police. The police revealed that Karim Boudouda was a criminal and was killed during the hunt.

The other measure includes increasing the prison sentence for such crimes. Moreover, any person found guilty of killing a policeman would be jailed for 30 years.

Moreover, it would be mandatory for the repeated offenders to wear an electronic label after their release.
