Polo Ralph Quarterly Income Rises 58%

The first quarter result of Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. has crossed the analyst expectation as net income of clothing manufacturer has increased by 58 percent, boosted by strong growth in wholesale and retail revenue.

The profit for the quarter ending on July 3 increased from $76.8 million or 76 cents per share in previous year to $120.8 million or $1.21 per share.

The company has posted increase in revenue by 14 percent, increased from $982.5 million in 2009 to $1.12 billion.

Wholesale revenue increased by 11 percent to $523 million due to strong shipment growth in the US.

The revenue from the newly launched stores in Asia has contributed towards the 16 percent increase in retail revenue.

The retail revenue increased to $592.5 million whereas licensing revenue declined by 8 percent to $37.8 million.

The company has beaten the analysts' prediction of net income of 89 cents per share on revenue of $1.14 billion.

The company deals in the manufacturing of clothing, home products, accessories and perfume.

The shares of the company have increased by $3.47 or 4.4 percent to $82.78.
