Death rate down by 12% in Scotland

According to reports, the death rate in Scotland has decreased by 12% in 2009.

The new figures released by the General Register Office showed that there were 746 suicides in 2009, which were 97 less than that in 2008.

The released reports revealed that there had been 77% suicides since 1990 and the present records showed 65% suicides in Scotland.

The data revealed that majority of suicides i. e. 549 had carried out by men and 197 were carried out by women.

It has been reported that the Glasgow City has the maximum number of suicides and the most suicides have been amongst people aged 40 to 44, then 35 to 39.

International self harm is the main cause of most of the suicides and one third of the suicides were classified as undetermined purpose.

People who are at higher risk are those who are addict of drugs or alcohol and then poorer people are the most who carry suicide due to depression.

Bereavement and marital breakdown have also been identified as contributing factors of suicides, according to General Register Office for Scotland.
