Bus Crash in France Claims Life of One

An individual lay dead after a bus that was on its way from Amsterdam to Paris crashed on a highway, which was slightly inside the border.

There were 37 people commuting on the bus on Friday when it crashed, which took place near the village of Crespin, that is just near the border from Belgium, as informed by Olivier Andre, who is the Prefect of the French Department of Nord.

The person, who lost life in the crash, could not be identified and it was not known if the dead was a woman or a man.

French and Belgian firefighters responded immediately to the mishap. Three rescue helicopters had to be called in.

Two other seriously injured commuters had to be removed through windows, a photographer at the site said.

After the accident, the night traffic on the A2 was disrupted but the auto route was not closed entirely, informed the police.

Fire fighters and emergency services from Valenciennes, Lille, Bergen and Quiévrain rushed to the spot, so as to help the people, who had been injured in the incident and help the passengers from the wreck.

The motorway stretching from France to Belgium was blocked for a distance of almost 5 kilometers.

No less than 30 commuters were offered temporary lodgings in Crespin.
