Sevilla Close to Selling Sebastien Squillaci to Arsenal

It has been reported by the media on Thursday that Sevilla is about to finalize the deal of selling French defender Sebastien Squillaci to Arsenal.

Sporting Braga defeated Sevilla by 1-0 in the qualifying round of the Champions League, in which Squillaci, 30, did not play. The match was held on Wednesday and if Squillaci, who joined Sevilla in 2008, had played in that match; he would not have played for another club in Europe this season.

Sevilla's Sporting Director Monchi said on Wednesday, "The player asked us not to play in this game because of the offer that he has received from an important club".

Now, the Manager of Arsenal, Arsene Wenger is looking for a veteran central defender for his team.

In the recent years, Sevilla has been performing well in the transfer market, as it buys players at cheap cost and sells them at a huge profit.

Squillaci was withdrawn from the team and did not play in the last match because the Spanish club did not want to take the risk of spoiling its transfer deal.

It is believed that Wenger was discussing about Squillaci, who was a part of France's World Cup team, although, he did not play for any of the matches in South Africa.
