Two Countries to Share Aircraft Carriers

Two Countries to Share Aircraft Carriers

While the Armed Forces face pressure from both the sides, deciding between the job cuts and protection of national interests seems a difficult thing to do.

A proposal that has come up for some necessary costs cuts has put forth that the two navies could share the use of their aircraft carriers. This will certainly result in massive job cuts in the shipyard in Britain. This is more likely to happen if one of the two replacement carriers, which are already under construction, is relegated.

While the British vessels will only be required to take orders from Royal Navy officers, it has been made very clear that each carrier will only be answerable to its own chain of command. Also, this proposal has established that one of three ships will be obliged to always tour the seas.

“The Defense Secretary has made clear that tough decisions will need to be made but the complex process of a Strategic Defense and Security Review will be concluded in the autumn”, said a MoD Spokesman.

Defense Secretary Liam Fox will soon be meeting his French counterpart and deciding on the issue. The summit that is due to take place in November will be seeing a meet between David Cameron and President Sarkozy.

Some sources have however said that it is not likely that the two countries would ever plan to share aircraft carriers.
