Friendly Fire was the Reason behind the Injury of 3 French Soldiers

It has been confirmed by the French Defense Ministry that during an operation in Afghanistan last month, three French soldiers were injured and the reason behind the injuries was friendly fire.

After the investigation, which helped to find out that the incident took place in an overgrown area where insurgents were present, it was published that the blame for the August 23 incident was to put on another French unit.

The conclusion of the report was that sensitive conditions lead to this incident. After discovering the injuries of soldiers, they were taken back to the France, out of two admitted in the hospital, one is in a serious condition.

According to the reports, during such operations the risk of friendly fire is common, while all safety measures are being taken.

“On the face of things, there was no specific error in the chain of command nor in the procedure. A concurrence of different elements led soldiers to believe there were Taliban in the area”, Morin told France Info radio on Wednesday.

Investigation was immediately started after the incident took place last week. In the Afghan conflict, death toll of the France is 47 and about 3,500 soldiers of France operate near Kabul.
