Samsung Electronics following a completely different approach to Apple, who generally launches devices exclusively on one carrier, has said that it’s new Android-powered Galaxy Tab tablet will be launched in four U. S. carriers, just like its Galaxy S phone series.
Samsung approach is seen as a favorable as it gives the choice of carriers to the customers instead of the manufacturer and the device can have larger reach. The tablet will be available on Verizon Wireless, AT&T Inc., Sprint Nextel Corp. and T-Mobile USA in the country.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet computer features a 7-inch screen and runs on Google Inc.'s Android 2.2 (Froyo) platform. The device also has a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera in addition to a 3-megapixel camera on the back for video calling. The tablet is not only among the first Android based tablet but also the first to feature two cameras.
The company is also offering software that helps optimize the use of a larger tablet format and the users for example can see some apps in slit screen. The company claims that its camera-equipped tablet allows users to take advantage of augmented reality apps available in the Android Market.
Samsung did not announce the pricing details of the device and said that the carriers will decide the pricing and it will be competitive. The company also said that it will offer a WiFi-only version of the tablet but did not say when it will be available in the market.
Samsung has tied up with various content providers including MTV, NBC, Paramount and Universal Home Entertainment for the tablet. The users will be able to rent or purchase TV shows and films on the device through a Media Hub.
