MS cases higher in women than men because of a gene

multiple-sclerosisIt is a known fact that more women suffer from multiple sclerosis (MS) than men and the reason for the same is a presence of gene. Chances of women having this particular gene are higher than men and it is also more likely that it gets passed from mothers to daughters rather than fathers.

The research was done by the MS Society-funded study at the University of Oxford.

In UK today, the most common neurological disease is MS. It causes serious problems in balancing and movement of a person. Data has also shown that Scotland has the highest number of MS patients in the world; the reasons for the same remain unclear.

Meanwhile, the latest report was published in the journal Neurology and the team of researchers was led by Professor George Ebers. For it some 7,000 people were studied and some 1,000 families were also observed. This was to see as to why some people inherit the disease and the others don't.

But the study said that since it is a quickly repeated disease, environment does have a role to play besides genetics.
