Sanofi-Aventis facing tough times due to Genzyme bid

The way the shareholders of French drugmaker, Sanofi Aventis, have shown their dissent towards its bid for US biotech firm, Genzyme; there is no doubt that it is presently in a very critical situation.

It was expected that Sanofi would increase its bid from $18.5 billion tender offer for the last time as the deadline for the same is set to expire on Friday. The two companies have been talking with each other over increasing the bid for Genzyme for a very long time now. But the kind of options that are available till now, the shareholders have begun to feel the pressure.

They are worried since they fear that Sanofi may end up by overpaying for the Genzyme offer. Experts believe that it is not the right decision for Sanofi to leave aside its cash flow and then go for a company just because it wants it to be a part of it.

Presently, Genzyme is trading at $72 a share and it is assumed that Sanofi is going to raise its bid to at least to $69. There are some investors who think that the bid can go upto $70.
