Scientists have found out some interesting facts in their recent study which says that the most effective way to remember a freshly learned poem, card trick or say an algebra equation might be to simply take a quick nap.

According to their experiments, German researchers report that the brain is better while we are sleeping than when we are awake at resisting all kinds of tries to scramble or corrupt a recent acquired memory.

The research was published in Nature Neuroscience, and it gives fresh insights into the highly elaborate and complex procedure by which humans store and retrieve purposely acquired information, or learning for that matter.

Previous studies say that newly acquired memories, saved temporarily in an area within the brain known as the hippocampus, did not gel immediately.

Moreover, the belief was that activating those new memories immediately following the learning had a vital role to play in the transfer of these memories to further permanent storage areas within the brain's neocortex, which may rightly be called the brain’s “hard drive”.

However, when we are awake, the period of reactivation makes the memories susceptible to fragility. But the new experiment shows that sleeping enhances memory retention better.
