A New Long Acting Insulin for Diabetic Patients

A New Long Acting Insulin for Diabetic Patients

The patients of type-2 diabetes would soon get a new long acting insulin shot. The new form of insulin would be given to the patents thrice-a-week rather than every day. The new insulin would be a breakthrough for the patients of type-2 diabetes. The body of these patients does not produce enough insulin which is required for the body to be able to use glucose for energy. The insulin injections are given to them so that their blood sugar level could be kept low.

The newly developed insulin shot works for 48 hours and is as good in controlling the insulin as the once-a-day shot. The new form of long acting insulin, Degludec has been jointly tested by doctors from India, Canada, US and South Africa.

The clinical trials of the new form of insulin suggest that it might help in reducing the risk of hypoglycemia.

With the availability of the new thrice-a-week insulin shots in the market the cost of injections of the diabetic patients would be reduced to half of its present cost. The new insulin will also lead to lesser number of injections with good control of blood sugar.
