Screening Tests Don’t Really Help in Reducing Rates of Prostate Cancer Patients

According to recent study it has been discovered that even though there are continuous screening tests conducted to check males for prostate cancer, it is not too much of a help in saving the lives of the affected ones.

These are the findings published in a medical journal and they reveal that it is nothing but a myth that if a person is screened at the right time, it can save his life.

These trials had started in Sweden in the tear 1987. It had included the study of 9,026 men between the ages of 50-69 years.

“After 20 years of follow-up, the rate of death from prostate cancer did not differ significantly between men in the screening group and those in the control group”, the authors concluded.

There even might be risks of over-treatment in this regard. The screening tests are a controversial issue as there is always a threat that there might be over treatment.

The survey is of the view that no matter how many screening tests are conducted and more and more men are getting themselves examined every year, it is not a very significant measure in decreasing the death rates due to the disease.
