Clinical Trial to Treat Prostate Cancer

Clinical Trial to Treat Prostate Cancer

Once again the Investigators at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey have just launched a new clinical trial. This trial shows the effects of a new type of hormone therapy used in the treatment of certain prostate cancers. This type of cancer is beyond the level of prostate.

CINJ is a well known Center of Excellence of UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. It is the one and only National Cancer Institute in New Jersey which designates Comprehensive Cancer Center. It has a 40 number of its center in the country.

The initial therapy for curing for advanced prostate cancer is to stop production of testosterone by the testes. This can be done either through removal of the testicles (surgical castration) or the giving of hormone treatment injections (chemical castration). This therapy has been adapted by most patients, but after sometime their cancer cells start to grow again despite these measures.

This shows that their cancer is “castration-resistant.”And for this reason such patients have limited treatment options.

But the researchers have found a latest drug named Abiraterone in the field of prostate cancer which motivates to ask about the castration-resistant cancer.
