Loss of Alcatel-Lucent Decreased in Q1

The Telecom-equipment giant, Alcatel-Lucent’s loss narrows sharply in the first quarter on strong sales in North America. Alcatel-Lucent has posted a net loss of 10 million Euros in the first quarter of 2011, which is $14.6 million in comparison to the loss of 515 million Euros in the first quarter of 2010.

According to a poll of six analysts at Dow Jones Newswires, it was revealed that the expected loss was of a €68 million. Even, the company is also performing well in the wireless business.

The 40% increase in the North America resulted in the increase in the revenue of the company by 15% to €3.74 billion. The sales of the company in the Asia have increased by 1.7%, while it is decreased by 1.8% in Europe. Initially the trading of the company was declined by 6% in Paris, which has been increased by almost 4% in the same place.

The Chief Executive, Ben Verwaayen, asserted, “We have started this year the way we ended the last, increasing growth, profit and global strength, and to do so in the first quarter is particularly pleasing”.

Meanwhile, it was revealed that the shares of the company have surged by 19% in a single session.
