NHS to Encourage Hand Washing Due to C.Difficile Outbreak

Hand washing has never been more important due to the spread of C. Difficile infection. So far, the infection has spread to 17 people who tested positive to the hospital acquired virus. One patient with the infection has died, however it is unknown if the infection was the cause of the death.

Currently, 14 people who tested positive for C. dififcile are in isolation at the St. Catherine’s General Hospital. The infection can be found in stool and contaminated surfaces such as toilets, handles, bedpans and chairs. People who touch these surfaces and then touch their mouths without washing their hands can become infected.

Hospitals are taking further action in efforts to decrease the spread of the disease. Hospital staff is conducting more patient rounds, and patients are being given more hand cleaning options as well as antibacterial wipes.

The NHS is working to its fullest capacity to control the outbreak of C. Diificile and is encouraging people to properly wash their hands.

Some schools are hosting campaigns of ‘safe sneezing’.
