Airbus to Boost Engine Thrust on A350

The Airbus SAS is doing all that it can to improve the performance of the largest version of their upcoming A350 plane. Their change of plans includes boosting the thrust of the Rolls-Royce engines.

With a boosted engine, this means the plane can carry more fuel which could be used to take more passengers or fly further distances.

The Dubai-based Emirate has already ordered 70 A350s, including 20-1000s. Right now, the A350-1000 is designed to carry 350 people for 8,000 nautical miles, states Airbus’ website.

Airbus’s rival Boeing announced on Tuesday that it will defend its successful 77 wide-body aircraft and did not feel any pressure about Airbus’ new plans for their engine.

Jim Albaugh, the head of its commercial airplanes expressed: “We have time to analyze the situation and at some point in time we'll do either a derivative or a new plane to make sure we secure what I'll call the high ground in the markets we serve”.

Albaugh assures his customers that no matter what Airbus plans to do; Boeing planes will be better and more capable.

However, both airplane companies are under pressure to deliver fuel savings as quickly as possible.
