Soaring Environmental Issues Raised Demand for Natural Gas

A report by International Energy Agency (IEA) has revealed that as investors are going for environment friendly products, it is believed that natural gas will be in huge demand. The agency in the report has said that given the right conditions, global gas production and supply may be entering a "Golden Age", but not without a carbon impact and still will be short of target to reduce emissions.

IEA’s Chief Economist, Fatih Birol has said that natural gas isn't an entirely friendly energy source and will have carbon footprint which means that the producers and consumers will be required to tackle. It has further told that after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami tragedy in Japan, shares of gas moved up in a rapidly changing global situation.

However, Birol has warned that a decisive shift to gas would need to be handled with care and cited fraudulent practices that negated the positive profile of gas as an environmentally friendly energy source. Moreover, environmental groups have expressed concerns that gas exploration and production may produce new threats. Additionally, hydraulic fracturing has been criticized for introducing contaminating chemicals in previously immaculate environment for the sake of producing gas.
