Andrew Bamforth Narrowly Escapes Fatal Heart Condition

Andrew Bamforth, 25, is lucky to be alive today after narrowly escaping from a deadly medical condition that nearly caused his heart to overfill with blood and explode.

While on his way to work at a local Morrison’s supermarket in Huddersfield, Andrew, the store supermarket supervisor, began to experience symptoms similar to those of a heart attack.

After arriving to the hospital because he was suffering from chest pains, Mr. Bamforth was shocked to be told that he may only have two hours to live before his heart would explode.

Doctors at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary told Andrew that his life was “hanging by a thread” after a CT scan revealed that his aorta had split in two, with one only hours away from rupturing.

Andrew was then rushed into emergency surgery for an operation with a one in five survival rate. Lucky to be alive, Andrew will now be off work for six months.

“If it had not been noticed in time, if I had not had such a good surgeon, I might not have been here another day”, he said.

According to doctors, Andrew, who is 6ft 11ins, had suffered an aortic dissection because he was suffering from a condition known as Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder of the connective tissue.
