Councils Cut Off the Fees of Elderly Care Service By 2.5%

The government of the UK was at affix with the strategy to maintain a balance in their expenditure on the care cost of elderly population and the increasing life-expectancy of the elderly people. As per the new data from the BBC, the care homes seem to be at a pressure with cuts in the expenditure by 2.5% made by the local councils.

A health economist, William Laing had done a study on the amount that the local council paid to the care homes, this year there was an increase in the demand of fees by 0.5%, which balanced the cut of 2.5% after the rise was taken into account.

The council paid £100 a week for the care of each resident at the care homes which was quiet low in comparison to the requirement. The councils were cutting of the number of beds at the care a home which was going to result in a shortage of beds in the future with the increase in demand. The President of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, Peter Hay, said 80% of councils had kept their fees at the same level as last year or given a small increase, despite the pressure on budgets.
