Victorian Emergency Department Imposes Long Patient Waiting Time

Collapsed services of Victorian emergency departments have forced the patients to experience long waiting times and failed to meet more than half of the statewide benchmarks for emergency care and elective surgery. Approximately 30,000 or more patients have waited for a huge span of time to avail desired assistance.

Figures suggest that during the first three months of year, hospitals have failed around six out of ten performance targets for emergency care as well as elective surgery. In a recent case, a woman had to wait for more than a month to avail necessary treatment at the Royal Women's Hospital in spite of her critical health conditions.

The Health Minister, David Davis, has confessed the system shortcomings and stressed on the need of some measure to improve the established set up although, he blamed Labor for neglecting the system.

On the other hand, the Opposition health Spokesman, Gavin Jennings, has expressed disappointment over the performance of health units. "It would be a tragedy for Victorian patients if the health minister's major achievement in
2011 is the website and not new beds, not new doctors, not new nurses”, added Gavin Jennings.

Now onwards, the performance data would be available online where patients would be able to get real time information, they need to wait in emergency.
