According to reports, the Health Service Executive has disclosed that it has exceeded spending in its budget by €170million, around the end of May, as Hospital overspending covers €120million, as well as that of the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick, which is over €14million, coupled with the waiting lists for children and adults, increasing above €54,700.
Also, they have frozen all vacancies, except for critical vacancies, to deal with the increasing pay costs, and other hospitals that have majorly overspent include. The University College Hospital Galway, Tallaght Hospital, Cork University Hospital, St Vincent's in Dublin and Our Lady of Lourdes in Drogheda and Beaumont Hospital.
The HSE stated, “Some hospitals will run into serious cash flow problems if they do not take significant measures to bring down costs in the second half of the year”.
However, the overspending is reported to be as a result of some factors including the rise of hospital activity and hospitals not getting back charges from public and private patients.
Moreover, the HSE deficit for the year till date has gotten to €195 million, as stated in the organization’s recent performance report, with hospital deficit currently, running over €120 million.
