Hendra Virus Outbreak Plagues Queensland

Hendra Virus Outbreak Plagues Queensland

There seems to be no early respite from the hendra virus that has been on rampage in Queensland for quite a long time. Irrespective of humans or horses, the virus is on regular look out to find a new victim.

As per recent reports, two more suspecting cases of hendra virus have come to light in Queensland, including one in the Brisbane region. As the horse at Hervey Bay, north of Brisbane was euthanized on Thursday, health officials have cordoned off the Fraser Coast property.

Moreover, another suspected case was reported at Boondall in Brisbane's north, though second test is being called for to confirm the result. Queensland chief vet Rick Symons said: "We have never, to my knowledge under these recent cases, had a test that's come back suspect and not come back suspect for the second test”.

Even four people who were in close contact with the sick horse at Hervey Bay are reported to go for medical examination. If reports are to be believed, 10 cases at Hervey Bay, seven in Queensland and three in NSW have been come to notice while a large number of people in close touch with the infected horses are being medically examined.

Meanwhile authorities have areas at Sydney's Randwick Racecourse owing to the fears that the deadly virus may spread its wings there.
