Mothers Follow Daughter’s Fashion Trends: Study

Earlier, teenage daughters use to follow their mothers in dressing and makeup, but a recent study has claimed that the mothers these days follow the fashion trends of their daughters.

These days the teenage girls use an expression ‘20-40 mum’ to depict the women in their 40s who dress up like a 20-year-old girl.

A study examined more than 343 mothers and daughters with an average age of 44 and 16 respectively. On the basis of the questions, it was confirmed that the trend has changed and mothers follow their daughters for fashion tips.

Lead author Dr. Ayalla Ruvio from Temple University Fox School of Business, said, “Our culture emphasizes being young and so we see this reverse socialization where parents mimic their kids. We had mothers who were 44, but who felt that they were 33 or 34”.

Dr. Ayalla stated that the findings point out that these days mothers have a strong tendency to imitate their daughters' consumption behavior.

Janet Cunliffe, 50, had spent £10,000 on cosmetic procedures to look like her 22-year-old daughter. She stated that she may sound crazy but she wanted to look like her beautiful daughter so she spent a huge amount on surgeries.
