Football May Lead To Major Brain Diseases

Doctors and experts have reported that the brains of Bobby Kuntz, Jay Roberts, Peter Ribbins and Tony Proudfoot, who all suffered from repeated concussions, were examined as part of the project at the Krembil Neuroscience Centre in Toronto Western Hospital.

The study was conducted by experts, including Dr. Charles Tator, Dr. Richard Wennberg and scientists from several other Canadian institutions

The studies have shown that Kuntz and Roberts have suffered from a neurological disease known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which is an abnormal buildup of a protein in the brain whereas the results from the researches done on Ribbins and Proudfoot did not show any signs of CTE.

It was reported that Kuntz died in February 2011 at the age of 79 due to Parkinson's disease and diffuse Lewy body disease whereas Roberts, 67, passed away in October 2010 after suffering from dementia and lung cancer. Ribbins died at 63 of Parkinson's disease and Proudfoot died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) at the age of 61.

A Neuropathologist, Dr. Lili-Naz Hazrati, has reported that both these men appeared to have pathological signs of CTE and they have suffered from some other serious neurological and vascular-related diseases.
