Six Hours Long Surgery Reattached Child's Face after Pit bull Attack

Seven-year-old Raul Carrizales had experienced a horrifying attack by a dog which tore off a large portion of his lower face in the city of Monterrey. The attack has shattered his face badly, where a neighborhood watchman who saw the attack picked up the piece and preserved them in a container with water and ice.

Mexico's state-run Social Security Institute has notified that the surgeons have struggled hard for around six hours to assemble the face pieces through operation. The critical operation to reattach the parts was carried out by two plastic surgeons along with two nurses and an anesthesiologist.

"This is the first facial re-implant that has been successfully carried out in the country”, added Juan Francisco Salazar, an Institute Spokesman in the northern state of Nuevo Leon. "The next step is rehabilitation, so that he will again have feeling and movement in his face”.

While commenting on the critical case, the Director of the IMSS hospital in Monterrey, Dr. Juan Carlos Tamez Montes said that the child, Raul Carrizales Jaramillo, was gnawed by a dog that practically tore off both lips and 60% of his left cheek.

The Clinic Director has notified that the kid is in the process of recovery and slowly he will regain movement as well as sensation of his restored lips and cheek.
