In a much warranted move to extend inpatient and outpatient surgical services, it has come to light that the province government has injected $10.6-million in the Queensway Carleton Hospital.
The news was confirmed by Bob Chiarelli, Liberal MPP for Ottawa West-Nepean, who touted the McGuinty's government's record in slashing surgical wait times and improving the quality of cancer care. It’s believed that the much awaited decision by the government had link with October's provincial election.
With the revelation, the hospital's President and CEO, Tom Schoenberg has assured that it would help in reducing waiting times and further, to escalate number of surgical procedures.
"What this funding does is stabilize and secure the additional volumes that we've been doing in everything from hip and knee replacements and cancer surgeries to across a broad range of surgeries", Schoenberg said.
Owing to shortage of funds earlier this year, the hospital had been planning to make scathing cuts in reducing its elective surgeries. But now, with the financial stimulus, the hospital is expected to escalate its level of services for the remainder of the fiscal year.
The additional funding, including the post-construction operating costs of the hospital's recently expanded facility, has raised the annual operating budget to $175 million.
