British Scientists Warn About Excessive Global Salt Intake

Though it was widely known in the medical fraternity across the world that excessive intake of salt triggers health concerns, it seems that a clan of British scientists has come all out to voice for the same. It was reported that health experts from Britain have appealed the UN to intervene to address the global concern related to salt intake.

Even the World Health Organisation (WHO) has recommended for reducing salt intake to 5g per person per day, but it’s being believed that many countries have violated the advice.

It was reported that by reducing the salt intake by 15%, as many as 8.5 million lives could be saved around the world in the next 10 years. In addition, healthcare costs would be reduced by $24 billion annually if this issue is being handled with utmost attention by every country.

“The reformulation of food in their hands could deliver a massive impact to public health in the same way that at the moment it is contributing to a huge burden of disease”, said Professor Francisco Cappucio, one of the researchers.

By overlooking the need of keeping a close look on the salt intake, countries have been bearing a huge health care cost, but with this revelation, it could be expected that significant changes can be introduced in the system.
