‘Vitamin A’ Deficiency Common among Children Under 5

There was a time when kids used to get all the necessary vitamins, and other needed elements for healthy growth from food only. But, as time has have passed, the deficiency have started raising its head, forcing people to take multi-vitamin capsules to remove the deficiency. But, ever wonder what if we don't even use supplements?

The deficiency of vitamin A poses a major risk for life for kids aged below five and this risk especially gets increased in the kids belonging to developing countries. The World Health Organization has revealed a global report claiming that there are 190 million children under five facing vitamin A deficiency. Therefore, they distribute the vitamin A supplements twice a year in 60 different countries, and the overall coverage after yearly distribution gets to
80%.

A research has been done by the researchers of University of Oxford and Aga Khan University which supports the above statement. They took 43 studies which have focused on under five kids having the said vitamin deficiency, and witnessed the impact of supplements on 200,000 children involved in those studies.

They divided the total number in to two and gave vitamin A supplements to one lot while other group was given placebo. After a period of time, they evaluated the result, and found the decrease by 24% among those who took the vitamin A supplements.
