Though the over-coat, scrubs and smocks may look sanitized, in reality many harmful germs are embedded on them.

A researcher from Israel has notified about the deep rooted viruses of MRSA in the clothes worn by the doctors at hospital. The research claims than more than 60% of the attire of doctors and nurses is contaminated.

The study commenced by the researcher found 14% uniforms of the nurses with bacteria's dead against certain antibiotic, and 6% uniforms of doctors were found with the same. The Israeli researcher, Shaare Zedek's Yonit Wiener-Well, MD, states that the patients in the hospitals were indirectly exposed to MRSA viruses.

The researchers examined sleeves, waists, and pockets of 75 nurses and 60 doctors working at the 550-bed Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. Out of these doctors and nurses, 58% admitted that they changed their uniforms each day. Also, 77% of the uniforms were found fairly germ-free.

Previous President Russell Olmsted, MPH, CIC, stated that, "It is important to put these study results into perspective. Any clothing that is worn by humans will become contaminated with microorganisms". He further said that the keystone of infection avoidance lies in maintaining hygiene and by blocking the travelling of the microbes from nurse to patient.
