NHS Whistle-Blowers to be Backed for Their Work: Beasley

The nursing chief has called for the backup of whistle blowers in the Stafford Hospital, as they need support from the other members of the hospital.

According to Dame Christine Beasley, the whistle blowers should be free to inform the authorities about the shortcomings and the hospital environment should support them in their work rather than victimizing them for their duties. The other employees of the hospital should help these whistle blowers so that the patients receive the high standards of care.

In the 2009 inquiry Commission report, it was notified that the Stafford Hospital has not been efficient enough to provide quality care to its patients, as hundreds of patients had lost their lives between the time span of 2005 and 2008.

"[At the Mid Staffordshire trust], the employees probably were either distressed by the situation and left... or became desensitised to the situation and just carried on with their job”, she stated.

Beasley stated that to ensure competent work from the whistle blowers, they should be provided with the authority and accountability so that they can bring out the actual scenario prevailing in the health services. This could only be possible if they do not have fear of being victimized, she added.
