Investigation on Infants Death in Cumbria

The death of nine days old Joshua Titcombe, has highlighted the issue of increasing infants death. The Cumbria Constabulary has been appointed to investigate the matter of deaths at the hospital.

Earlier, an investigation had confirmed that the infants died due to some natural cause, but the carelessness on the part of the midwives was not revealed who were not able to detect the infection and treat the child.

For the time being, it is not declared that how many infants’ death cases will be referred, in the course of investigation. As per Detective Inspector Doug Marshall, "The investigation began following the death of nine-day-old Joshua Titcombe from Dalton and, following a scoping exercise, detectives widened their investigation to include a number of other deaths”.

He further stated that the case was quiet complicated, 15 detectives have been appointed to look into the case. Also, officers who were related to the families of the infants were involved in the case.

Tony Halsall, Chief Executive of University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, revealed that the authorities were not acquainted about the progress of the investigation. They assured that they will provide all kinds of assistance and cooperation to the investigating officials.
