Whooping Cough Vaccination Might Need to Be Renewed After Three Years

It has been revealed according to a recent study that the effects of whooping cough vaccine could wither away after a span of 3 years, and the child might again be at the impeding risk of the disease.

These results were revealed after a study conducted on as many as15000 children of the Marin County. This is where more than 8000 people were infected and 11 infants died from the disease last year.

It is the common belief that once a child is vaccinated for whooping cough, it would stay for a lifetime, or at least for a fair deal of it. This new revelation has thrown light on the fact that vaccinations might not be able to ward off the disease forever and might need to be renewed from time to time.

"When we first started having a Pertussis outbreak, we assumed that this would be primarily in the unvaccinated population”, revealed Dr. David Witt from the Kaiser Permanente Medical Centre situated in San Rafael in California. He further added that they did not have a clue back then that it could be due to fading of the dose of vaccination for whooping cough.
