According to latest reports, it has been revealed that the proficiency of Kiwi scientists and researchers is likely to be utilized in carrying out a major flu research, which has been monetarily backed by the American Government.
The scientists will analyze Aucklanders' experience and expertise regarding the flu during the course of study, which is likely to span out over next five years.
In addition, it will help the global health system and medical officials from all over the world in combating the illness.
The Environmental Science & Research department of the Crown research institute has bagged $7 million indenture from the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP), to carry out an elaborated research over the next five winter flu seasons in New Zealand.
The research, which is likely to start in winter 2012, will witness New Zealand scientists exploring why flu causes some people to die while a few of them survive.
The study, which will be known as Shivers project, is being viewed as one of the biggest researches ever conducted in the said field.
The study will focus on enhancing global flu treatment and prevention methods and crusades by monitoring the percentage of the population catching flu every year, by analyzing groups which are worst affected, how frequently the flu results in causing death, and whether vaccines being used for flu are really worth it.
