Dakota Fanning's Perfume Banned in UK

Dakota Fanning's Perfume Banned in UK

Finding the latest print advertisement of Marc Jacobs' latest fragrance frontwoman Dakota Fanning, media watchdogs have not only criticized it for being sexually provoking but have also banned the ad in UK.

The advertisement has been out in the market since June 2011 and has been included in the UK magazines and newspaper supplements. Soon after that, there was no end to complaints from readers who find it too loud to be included in the print media.

It is not the first time that they have banned an ad of such nature. Earlier, many advertisements featuring Beyoncé, Christy Turlington, Julia Roberts and Angelina Jolie have got banned for the same purpose.

Readers' wanted to know only one thing that does it comply with the Advertising Standards Authority. Inquiry was done in this manner and they also found content inappropriate and too provoking.

The ASA explained the reason for banning the print advertisement somehow like this: "We understood the model was 17 years old, but we considered she looked under the age of 16. Because of that, along with her appearance, we considered the ad could be seen to sexualize a child".

Explanation was not justifiable enough to satiate company's concerns and they complained that the print ad could be provocative, but not all decent. Therefore, it is not right to ban the advertisement.

The authorities were of the view that the positioning of 17-year-old 'Twilight' star in the print ad was not at all healthy for children. Therefore, they took this decision and banned it. Perfume was held in such a way that it passed out a very loud message and not only this, but model's transparent skin colored dress cleared the message that the company was mulling to pass on.
