Abiding by their last year statement, where the Royal Bank of Scotland has said that they would be reducing their operating areas which would also lead to job losses, it has been confirmed that they would be closing their Bristol branch soon.
This decision would call for 440 job cuts and next in their list is Plymouth. Unions have asked the bank to reconsider their decision as it would affect the area very badly. The bank which is 80% owned by the tax payers is passing through rough times and said these job cuts are part of their 3,000 job losses, which they announced in 2010.
Bristol is not the first place as Aztec West office and working station at the Plymouth would also get closed, said National officer David Fleming.
He further affirmed, "These cuts are part of the strategic review which RBS announced in September 2010 where 3,500 roles will be cut. Today, staff learns the reality of what this means for them and their families”.
RBS spokesperson said it is not an instant decision and last year only, they have decided and announced to their employees about the sites which would get closed, so they get one complete year to find another suitable job.
Bank is not being closed out of any choice but because it has left with no other option. It is part of cost cutting of which their employees are well aware of, said RBS spokesperson.
Unions said they agree with the statement but closing would create havoc on the lives of people so they have requested the RBS to think of some strategic review and to find out another solution to the problem.
Names of sites which would get closed in next two years have also been told to those, who would be affected by it and it is advised that they should also start looking out for another job.
