Onyx Pharmaceuticals Experience Tumbling of Shares

On Monday, shares of Onyx Pharmaceuticals were observed at a lower position, after experiencing a downfall of 7%. The deviation is believed to have strong influence from the company’s statement, which revealed that the United States regulators are not in a mood to carry fast-track review of its experimental drug empowered to cure myeloma. On Monday, the company notified that US Food and Drug Administration has directed making an immediate decision regarding the drug approval. However, they have provided a July deadline.

“We feel comfortable that we have addressed the key risks and that this is a compound that deserves to be approved either on an accelerated basis or a full basis”, notified Tony Coles, its Chief Executive Officer, while addressing the analysts with help of a conference call earlier today. On the other hand, the Head of Research and Development, Ted Love notified that the company has outlined plans to carry out a panel hearing.

It has been reported that Onyx Pharmaceuticals has revealed ultimate results of its Phase-2 study ‘the 004 study’, while evaluating a next-generation proteasome inhibitor among patients living with relapsed and/or refractory multiple myeloma.

An expert from the Department of Medicine, Oncology Division, Bone Marrow Transplantation & Leukemia Section at the Washington University School of Medicine, Ravi Vij, who is also serving as associate professor at the university, presented the data. During the presentation, he applauded the Phase-2 study results for clearly demonstrating the promising single-agent activity of carfilzomib among patients suffering refractory multiple myeloma but never received any bortezomib treatment.

Meanwhile, around two brokerages notified about their expectations regarding approval of carfilzomib that is believed to yield good results to cure bone marrow cancer, which is known to affect lives of more than 50,000 Americans, and is considered as the leading cause of deaths in US.
