Flight Tax Flies Up by 10%

It has been uncovered by a report recently that Air Passenger Duty has risen up by almost 10% and because of the same, holidaymakers would need to pay higher prices.

It is being said that the increase in flight tax would largely affect the British tourism in the Olympic year. The reason behind the same is that tax has to be paid on all flights into the country.

The report has found that the taxes that have soared include the tax on a family of four moving to Florida, which has been increased by £260 and tax on flights to Spain that has increased up to £52. Also, a trip to Australia would levy £368 increased charges.

Further, it has also been revealed by the report that the tax rate was only £5 on all European flights in 2005, with £20 for the other destinations. Whereas, the rise in charges have been hinting towards an earning of £2.6billion for the Treasury this year.

The chancellor George Osborne is being alleged of hiding such dire news as the same appeared in papers released by the Treasury, though it was not mentioned by him in his budget yesterday.

The changes in the tax dubbed as the 'poll tax of the skies' would take effect from April 1, the report reveals.
