It seems that there is no sooner end to the woes of those women who fall under the category of PIP breast implant scandal victims, as the NHS has made it clear that they would not replace the faulty breast implants but would only remove it. This clearly indicates that women would have to go for dial operation to get their figure restored.
Defending the same, ministers said that they are following the principle which doesn’t allow patients to have any treatment which is partly funded by government and private players, thereby putting the future of patients into further jeopardy.
It was also feared that in case the NHS would do both the operations, then it would be an easy way out for those private clinics who have indulged in such unethical practices. There is a need to make the culprit clinics accountable for what they have done instead of giving them the leeway to off shoulder their responsibility towards the victims.
“We think it should be possible for that woman to have a replacement implant put in the same operation, albeit that she pays for it as indeed she paid for the original implant”, said Stephen Dorrell, chairman of the Commons Health Committee, who has claimed that it is quite irrational that women would have to go through two operation instead of one to get rid of the PIP mess.
There is a need for the private clinics to take moral responsibility for the ruckus they have created by moving a step ahead and get the suffering women treated.
While the justification given by the government is very much understandable, it has become all the more imperative for the NHS to take the much needed steps to address the concern instead of striking to their rules.
