Government Advice Presses the Panic Button

A recent report indicated that there has been a considerable rise in petrol sales by 81%, while sales of diesel also moved up by 43%, thereby indicating that the fear of possible fuel tanker strike has pulled a large number of vehicles to the petrol outlets.

It was earlier suggested by the government to keep vehicles filled, as there are fair chances that a potential strike is in the offing which could make things a lot difficult for commoners in the time to come.

"This government appears intent on creating a crisis out of a serious concern”, said Brian Madderson, Chairman of the Petrol Federation. Moreover, the Petrol Retailers Association seems to be not much convinced with the government’s attitude as it claimed that government should not have triggered the panic among people.

“Deliveries are still being made to garages and we are advising people to continue with their normal buying habits”, said a spokesman for the Petrol Retailers Association, who claimed that there is no need to press the panic button. Even in other case, the union concerned, Unite, would have to give a week notice before any industrial action, which is reported to be unlikely at this moment.
